La presenza greca nella citta dove e avvenuto il piu grande massacro dell’Europa del dopoguerra e il risultato di una lunghissima ricerca condotta dai giornalisti greci della pagina di controinformazione XYZ Contagion (in https://xyzcontagion.wordpress.com c’e anche una versione in inglese). Spulciando gli atti del Tribunale Penale Internazionale per l’ex Jugoslavia, i rapporti dei Caschi Blu olandesi e  centinaia di foto, riprese TV e articoli di stampa, il team giornalistico greco e riuscito a individuare l’identita di gran parte dei «volontari greci» che erano presenti al massacro.

Il risultato e questo: accanto a qualche avventuriero, mercenario professionista e ingenuo idealista, c’e una presenza quasi esclusiva, di fascisti e nazisti dichiarati, alcuni dei quali membri del Comitato Centrale di Alba Dorata, accorsi in Bosnia per dare man forte non al popolo serbo ma ai loro camerati ‘cetnici’. E stata la nascita di quelle reti intessute tra ultranazionalisti serbi e greci che, durante e subito dopo la guerra civile in Bosnia, hanno dato vita a quelle bande criminali balcaniche che hanno imperversato per almeno un decennio.

 

La prima volta della Guardia Greca

I «volontari greci» hanno cominciato a confluire nelle fila dell’armata serbo-bosniaca verso gli inizi del 1993. Gli stessi parlano di «almeno 60-70 persone» che sarebbero passate, in tempi diversi, dalla Bosnia Erzegovina. Quasi sicuramente e un esagerazione. Sicuramente, a un certo punto il loro numero e diventato di alcune decine e si e deciso di dare loro visibilita creando la Guardia Volontaria Greca (GVG), con la bandiera ellenica sulla divisa. Come si e scoperto solo ora, la Gvg era integrata alla Brigata Vlasenica del corpo d’armata Drina dell’esercito serbo-bosniaco, proprio quella che ha preso parte all’assedio di Srebrenica ed e entrata tra le prime nella citta caduta.

Secondo la ricerca di XYZ Contagion, Srebrenica e stata anche la prima operazione bellica in cui sia stata presente (non si sa quanto impegnata nei combattimenti) la Guardia Greca. Fino a quel omento, il suo comandante Zvonko Bajagic (braccio destro del Presidente della Republika Srpska Radovan Karadzic) l’aveva tenuta a Vlasenica, vicino alla capitale serbo-bosniaca Pale, a distanza di 56 chilometri da Srebrenica. Li i volontari greci avevano seguito un rudimentale corso di addestramento e poi venivano usati da Karadzic a farsi vedere per le citta e i paesi serbi per regioni propagandistiche. L’unica attivita effettuata dai greci erano i turni di guardia e anche questi sempre insieme con i combattenti serbi, per evitare incidenti.

Gli epici racconti di sanguinosi combattimenti prima di Srebrenica non erano che favole. Uno dei dirigenti di Alba Dorata che viene ripreso con le stampelle e Socratis Kousoumvris, che attribuiva il suo ferimento alla dura battaglia di Majevica. L’inchiesta ha constatato invece che e avvenuto per un fortunato colpo di mortaio quando lui, per la prima e ultima volta, ha deciso di uscire dalla zona protetta. Forse e lui l’albadorato anonimo che in un’ intervista al giornale del gruppo nazista dichiaro:
«Il vero nemico e quello potente, eterno e subdolo. Il vero nemico non sono i turchi, neppure i musulmani, gli albanesi, gli abitanti della Macedonia ex jugoslava. Il vero nemico e il potere mondiale sionista».
Socratis e fratello dell’ex numero due di Alba Dorata Haris Kousoumvris, cacciato dal gruppo con una spiata alla polizia dal Fuhrer Nikolaos Michaloliakos poco dopo il ritorno del fratello dalla Bosnia. Secondo Haris, Michaloliakos temeva che gli ex combattenti gettassero ombra sulla sua leadership.

Dopo l’ingresso del gruppo nazista in Parlamento nel 2012 tutte le foto e i riferimenti ai «volontari nazionalisti» in Bosnia sono spariti dalla sua pagina web. Ma durante la guerra civile le cose erano molto diverse: il giornale di Alba Dorata non perdeva occasione per esaltare la presenza di suoi militanti a fianco dei serbi. Michalis Mavroyannakis in un’ intervista televisiva confesso: «Io, come molti altri volontari, siamo militanti di Alba Dorata ed e questo che ci ha spinto ad andare la», mentre Apostolos Belbas, che potrebbe essere l’attuale segretario della federazione di Tripoli nel Peloponneso (ed ex candidato di Alba Dorata), aggiunse: «Combattiamo per una Grecia Grande in un’ Europa libera, senza musulmani ne sionisti americani».

Cinque marchi a cadavere

Altri ex volontari dichiarano di appartenere sempre all’area di estrema destra e che comunque il giornale e le pubblicazioni di Alba Dorata erano diffusissime nel loro accampamento.

Tra tutte queste figure di miles gloriosus, alcuni hanno avuto il modo di distaccarsi presso il X Distaccamento Sabotaggio, il corpo mercenario interamente composto dalle famigerate Tigri di Arkan. Uno dei due, un militante di Alba Dorata, ha gettato sulla Guardia Volontaria anche l’onta del tradimento: cacciato dal corpo perche derubava i suoi camerati e depredava i civili, si arruolo, dietro compenso, tra le fila dei musulmani.

I mercenari del X Distaccamento sono anche gli unici che si sono vantati pubblicamente di aver ucciso musulmani a Srebrenica. Dopo la caduta della citta, gli uomini di Arkan avevano avuto il compito di organizzare imboscate nei boschi attorno per uccidere i civili che tentavano disperatamente la fuga. Il compenso era cinque marchi a cadavere, ne hanno prodotto 1.200 in sole cinque ore, tutti nei boschi attorno alla citta. Forse a questo si riferiva un sottufficiale della Guardia Volontaria Greca che ha dichiarato in un’intervista: «La prima volta che ho ucciso musulmani, se ricordo bene, erano tre, in un’imboscata. Ci sentivamo soddisfatti ogni volta che uccidevamo musulmani, in 13 minuti abbiamo lasciato stesi 300 di loro».

Prima di dispiegarsi attorno alla citta per la caccia all’uomo, bisognava pero segnalare nel modo eclatante la vittoria. Si e cominciato cosi a bombardare la moschea di Srebrenica, fino ad abbattere il minareto e distruggere buona parte dell’edificio. Per questo vandalismo, piu tardi, hanno rivendicato il «merito» sia le Tigri che la Guardia Greca.

Un raccapricciante album di foto

Il team giornalistico di XYZ Contagion ha pubblicato nel suo sito una serie impressionante di foto e di riprese televisive che indicano la presenza di almeno otto greci a Srebrenica e altri due nei boschi attorno. Le foto e i video li mostrano sfilare nella citta deserta, atteggiarsi a grandi guerrieri e a festeggiare con i camerati serbi. C’e anche una foto che mostra tre «volontari» scherzare con una testa di maiale. Oltre ad accanirsi contro la moschea non si sa cos’altro abbiano fatto. Ma si sa che erano presenti mentre si compiva la strage nel campo di calcio del sobborgo Nova Kasaba: migliaia di prigionieri legati e inginocchiati uccisi con un colpo alla nuca e subito sepolti in fretta dai bulldozer. La loro presenza l’ha rivelata il loro stesso comandante Bajagic al Tribunale de L’Aja: il 13 luglio si trovava li «accompagnato da alcuni greci».

Uno di loro fotografava la strage, tanto da provocare lintervento di Vujadin Popovic, numero due dell’armata di Pale, che ha preteso la consegna del rullino. Sembra pero che un bel po’ di materiale fotografico sia sfuggito al controllo. E stato trovato dalla polizia greca molti anni dopo, nel 2003, perquisendo la casa di un ex volontario, arrestato con un ex Tigre serbo con l’accusa di far parte di una banda ateniese di feroci criminali, vicini all’estremismo di destra.

Un’ottantina di raccapriccianti foto della strage, secondo la polizia, che pero nessuno ha visto. La presenza di volontari greci nel piu grande delitto del dopoguerra era un segreto da tenere nascosto.

Greek Volunteers and Golden Dawn members during operations in the Srebrenica massacre, July 1995

Two video scenes taken from unpublished, forgotten footage filmed by well-known international news agencies, like Associated Press, during the operations of the Bosnian Serb troops and paramilitaries in July of 1995 in Srebrenica. These reports were aired in July 1995 on TV stations all over the world and especially on Dutch national television.

From an XYZ Contagion study, based on 20 years of research, entitled:
‘The Srebrenica massacre, the Greek Volunteer Guard (EEF) and the involvement of Golden Dawn,’ which contains exclusive new evidence presented for the first time in Greece and internationally.

This study contains evidence that proves that Golden Dawn members and functionaries and other Greeks fascists of the so-called Greek Volunteer Guard (EEF) were actually there. Not simply ‘somewhere near Srebrenica’, but they were at the exact locations, at the football fields and meadows and abandoned warehouses, while the mass executions of 8,000+ POWs and unarmed civilians took place, at the exact time of the killings.

On 11 July 1995, ten members of the Greek Volunteer Guard and an eleventh Greek serving in a death squad unit invaded Srebrenica, along with Ratko Mladic’s troops and paramilitaries. Five of them can be seen at 00:17 in the footage. Their names are Spyros Tzanopoulos (EEF sergeant and member of the central committee of the neonazi Golden Dawn gang), Anna Florin, K. Kyriakidis, G. Lymperidis and Charalambos Dimoulas. The same five men, together with another two Greeks, Tryfonas Vasiliadis (EEF deputy commander) and Dimitris Zavitsanos (EEF master sergeant) can be seen at 00:44 of the footage.

Also in the area around the same time was the EEF’s Greek commander Antonios Mitkos, as can be seen at 02:50 in a photograph along with the EEF’s Serb commander, who used the pseudonym Duga Puska, and Ratko Mladic himself.

You can see a photo of all ten of them at 01:10. The names of the other two volunteers were Konstantinos Kaltsounis and Vasilios Schizas, who can be seen again at 02:37 in the video, joking around with a pig’s head, meant as an insult to Muslims.

There’s also a photograph of them, at 01:28, which was taken on the actual street where Mladic’s troops entered Srebrenica that 11 July 1995.

The 11th Greek who participated in the invasion of Srebrenica was Angelos Latsios (aka Andjelko Todorovic), a completely different story. He was a member, along with another Greek, of an elite death squad, the notorious 10th Sabotage Detachment. The 10. Diverzantski Odred carried out 1,200 executions of Bosniaks in 5 hours, for 5 deutschmarks a head. The 10th SD was under the direct orders of infamous war criminals like Mladic, Tolimir, Salapura, Beara, Pelemis, Franc Kos, etc. This squad had ‘contracts with a licence to kill’, according to the Humanitarian Law Center (Fond za Humanitarno Pravo) dossier on the 10th SD (entitled ‘Dosije: 10. diverzantski odred Glavnog staba vojske Republike Srpske’, Sarajevo, August 2011).

In the above video, you can see footage of them on their way to organise ambushes and burn houses, again along with paramilitary soldiers. Insignia can be seen of both the EEF and the elite death Squad, the 10th SD, as smoke rises from the background, a clear sign that some houses had been set on fire a short time before. Next, there’s footage of a squad of 7 EEF members on the day of the killings, 13 July, again along with the notorious 10th SD paramilitary death squad. Four members of this squad were convicted to 40-43 years’ imprisonment for war crimes and mass executions of unarmed civilians at the exact same football field where, on the same day and around the same time, the Greek volunteers and their Serb commander were present, taking photographs of prisoners (or dead prisoners).

The security chief of the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS), the military intelligence chief and other officers were there too. They have all been convicted. The security chief demanded that the photographs be handed up because they were evidence of the massacre, but Mladic had ordered that nothing was to be documented. The Serb commander of the EEF refused to give him these photographs. So, these images probably exist. Can they be the same photographs depicting the corpses of Muslim civilians that the Greek police uncovered in 2003 during a search of the home of a former volunteer who was being investigated for smuggling drugs and weapons?

Panorama of the ‘Gallery of the Greeks volunteers’. These are the … heros that made us Greeks proud as a nation and as individuals for rheir deeds. When the city fell and the manslaughter began, 12 or 13 of these Golden Dawners, fascists and others were there, during the whole week of the Srebrenica’s atrocities. They were there, not simply ‘somewhere near Srebrenica’, but they were at the exact locations, at the football fields and meadows and abandoned warehouses, while the mass executions of 8,000+ POWs and unarmed detained civilians took place, at the exact time of the killings. They were digging mass graves and they were helping with the executions. They had a very close relationship to elite paramilitary mercenaries of the Serb-Bosnian Army. According to evidence by the International Court of Justice, they were also taking pictures from the condemned prisoners and from the executions. For details, click on each photo.
